Meet Our Team

Maia Shwartz, Executive Director

Maia is originally from the west coast but landed in southeastern MA in early 2018. After completing an undergraduate degree in biology, Maia went on to complete her Master of Public Administration in 2015 at Portland State University. After graduating, Maia became the Executive Director of the Portland Animal Welfare Team where she fell in love with the opportunity to help pets and their people. Once on the east coast, Maia became the Executive Director of her local YMCA before joining PIN Clinic in January of 2020. Maia enjoys hiking, playing outside, chasing her two foster kids, and snuggling her cat and two dogs.

Dr. Samantha Schenck, DVM, Medical Director

Dr. Samantha Schenck is a native of Fall River, MA. After graduating from UMass Dartmouth with a Bachelor’s in Biochemistry, Dr. Schenck attended Tufts University and graduated in 2014. Dr. Schenck worked in small animal general practice prior to joining Pets in Need in March 2018. She has attended special training in small animal dentistry and has special interests in behavior and internal medicine. In her spare time, Dr. Schenck enjoys spending time hiking, travelling and relaxing at home with her husband and two cats, Nyx and Buddy.

Dr. Danielle Johnson, DVM

Dr. Danielle Johnson is originally from Baltimore, Maryland. She went to veterinary school at Ross University in St. Kitts where she adopted her two adorable coconut retrievers, George and Lola. Dr. Johnson then went on to do a small animal rotating internship and then practiced as an emergency veterinarian until joining Pets in Need in January 2020. Her special interests include internal medicine, shelter medicine, and critical care. In her free time, she enjoys the beach, traveling, and doing anything outside with her pups. She is very excited to now be a part of the Pets in Need team!

Dr. Carrie Robbins, DVM

Dr. Carrie Robbins grew up in Denver, CO and attended veterinary school at the University of Minnesota. She completed a rotating internship at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital in Colorado, followed by a surgical internship at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in Rhode Island. She then worked as an emergency veterinarian and surgeon prior to joining the team at Pets In Need in 2018. Her interests include soft-tissue surgery, wound management and teaching. Dr. Robbins enjoys hiking with her husband and black lab Blue.

Sydni Martin, CVT

Sydni started at Pets in Need as an intern in 2016 and has been with us as a certified veterinary technician ever since. She is a graduate of the New England Institute of Technology and has an Associates of Science degree in Veterinary Technology. Sydni was given the honor of being voted the 2018 Rhode Island Vet Tech of the year! When she isn’t at one of her two jobs working with animals, she spends her down time with her own fur babies, Gizmo, Lionel, Archie, and Rufus.

Jen Morris, CVT

Jen graduated from Bridgewater State University in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, but later went back to school to pursue her true passion of working with animals. Jen obtained her Associate’s degree in Animal Science from New England Institute of Technology in 2014 and has been a Certified Veterinary Technician since. Jen has worked at Pets In Need since April 2018, where she continues to pursue her long term goals of helping animals and the families who own them, especially those less fortunate than others. When Jen is not working at Pets In Need, she is spending her time with her own 2 dogs and 3 cats, and/or pet sitting several other beloved furbabies.

Amber Muller, CVT

Amber is a certified Veterinary Technician that graduated from New England Institute of Technology in 2016. Amber has worked through a few different types of veterinary hospitals over the past couple years to find herself at Pets In Need in 2018. She feels as though she did not know what making a real difference was until she began working here. Amber is extremely proud of what we do and how many people and pets we impact and improve daily. When Amber is not working, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Kyle and her three handsome cats: Emmett, Zane, and Miles.

Brenna DuPerry, Veterinary Assistant

Brenna grew up in Cranston and graduated from LaSalle Academy in 2015. She went on to get her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from Johnson & Wales University in 2019. She has been at PIN since May of 2019 as a veterinary assistant and hopes to attend veterinary school next fall. She lives with her family, Labrador Retriever, Ruby and Sulcata Tortoise, Fred. In her spare time, she enjoys sports, hiking, and volunteering at a local animal shelter.

Dy’ann Cardona, Veterinary Assistant

Dee grew up in Providence, RI and graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at New England Institute of Technology in May 2019. Before going to school to be a veterinary technician, Dee worked at a doggie daycare gaining experience working with various dog personalities and behaviors. Dee has been a part of the PIN team since August of 2019. When not working at PIN, Dee enjoys pet sitting and spending time with her own pets: Haze, Knox, and Bellie (pictured here).
